The Unlucky Day

Friday the 13th, unlucky for some. I have friends who literally despise getting out of bed on this day. Scared of something awful happening to them because it's Friday 13th. But with me, it's the complete opposite. Friday 13th is usually lucky for me... It's just every other day that's unlucky.

I am an unlucky person. It's just fact. I've always been the unluckiest person I know. I officially confirmed to myself that I was cursed with bad luck about a year ago during a weekend from hell. At first, I just thought it was one of those days. You know, when nothing seems to go your way.

I woke up on the Saturday morning feeling like death. A killer cold had come out of nowhere and had hit me like a train. But I had an assignment deadline on the Monday, so I had to get my work done, killer cold or not. So, I went downstairs to the family computer, where i'd been doing my work the night before, and turned it on. Only a sound like a car engine to come booming out of the tower. The screen just plain blank refused to turn on. Now, I have my own laptop, I had just forgotten to transfer the previous nights work to it. So it was my own lazy fault really.

After a trip to computer store, my dad informed the family that the computer needed a new tower. The hardrive would be saved but it was going to take a few days. I don't know who had a bigger breakdown: Me or my 12 year old, Club Penguin obsessed sister.

So, deadline on Monday, work had to be done all over again and I was dying of cold. My day was clearly going fantastic as usual.

I accepted the fact that because of my own carelessness, I would have to re-start all of my work again, on my laptop. Like I should have done in the first place. So I went upstairs to my room, walked over to my desk, turned on my laptop and sat down... only to end up halfway to the floor due to one of my chair legs breaking. Yeah, really.

It was safe to say that by this point in the day, I was certain that the universe had it in for me. Clearly, I had been cursed.

I decided to just have some chill out time to recover from the days' horrors and settled down on my bed with a book. It was relaxing, until I heard the clicking noises coming from the wall. It was like something was in there. I'd been hearing it for a few days but thought nothing of it. I just assumed it had something to do with the piping in the house and carried on reading.

My bed is close to the window and during a casual glance outside, I saw a fly just by window. At least I thought It was a fly. About a minute later, I saw another one hovering outside the window. That's when I took a proper look and saw they were wasps. Quite a few of them. Hanging around outside my window. I then watched a row of wasps come out of my wall on the outside of the house from a little hole were my window met the bricks. The ones hovering outside flew in there and I heard clicking in the wall.

Yeah, my day was topped off by a wasps nest in my bedroom wall.

At this point, I should have totally freaked out. There were wasps IN MY WALL! But I just sat there and laughed. I thought about just how comical my horrific day would be to anyone not living it. I might just write a book about my misfortunate life one day. I'm sure people would love to read about the tragic moments of my day to day happenings.

Hence the reason why I don't bother seeing Friday the 13th as unlucky. Because most of my days are unlucky. It's practically guaranteed that I will end up late to uni once a month because of a cancelled train. That's just how my life rolls.

So if you do happen to have a bit if bad luck today, was it really that unlucky? Or is it just because it's Friday the 13th so you have something to blame it on?

Hey There...

My journalism lecturer informed my university class that as part of our course this year, we would have to set up our own personal blogs that he expected us to update on a regular basis. I asked him what exactly he wanted us to write about: “I want you to talk about you and your life” is the answer he gave me.

So here I am, on my laptop, staring at an empty blog, thinking ‘well this is awkward…’ You see, my life really isn’t interesting enough for people to actually want to read about. So I’ll apologize in advance if you happen to have stumbled across this blog in your World Wide Web wanderings, because I’m about to just talk about my pretty uneventful life as a teenage book geek.

Well since you’re here now, you might as well read a bit about me. I am a self-confessed book geek. I read. A lot. I have been writing reviews for books for over a year now, you can check them out if you want: http://queenofteenfiction.blogspot.com/ (not that I’m shamelessly plugging my book blog or anything).

I’m currently in my second year of media at university, I love it and couldn’t see myself studying anything else. When I tell people that I’m studying media, they usually roll their eyes at me and say “the easy option huh?” But I’d love to see them try and do the assignments I have to do each term. Writing, filming, directing, casting and editing your own fifteen minute drama is no easy option, I’m telling you. As stressful as it might be, media has been the best thing for me.

In high school I was pathetically shy. I had every intention of going to an animal college to study animal care. But then I went to view the college and was informed that make-up and jewellery were an absolute no-no and that my days of hair dying were over. The college also wanted students to wear waterproof green or blue overalls each day. I knew I wasn’t right for the place the minute I walked past a field and saw a truck pulling competition. Yeah, really.

So then I went tumbling into media, went to uni, gained a personality and so far it’s been great. Well great-ish… I think. Who knows, I might be winning Oscars in years to come!

Here’s to hoping!
